Karaoke is a low-stakes way to break stage fear: the crowd is usually rooting for you, not judging pitch. Getting through a full song in front of others, mic in hand, is the actual milestone, regardless of how it sounds.

1. Choose a song you genuinely know by heart, not the most impressive one on the list
2. Pick a key and tempo that sit comfortably in your range, lowering the key if it strains
3. Queue it early in the night before nerves and second thoughts build up
4. Hold the mic close, watch the screen for timing, and commit fully to the words
5. Look up at the room between lines instead of staring at the lyrics the whole time

Tips

• Bring one friend to cheer, but don't wait for a duet partner to go up
• Songs with a strong chorus carry the crowd even if your verses wobble
• Skip anything with rapid-fire lyrics or huge high notes for your first time
