How to complete Photo Archive

Scattered photos across phones, drives, and shoeboxes are effectively lost: you can't find or enjoy what isn't organized. Sorting them by year and event turns a pile into an actual archive you'll revisit, and protects the memories from drive failure or a lost phone.

1. Gather everything into one place first: pull photos off old phones, SD cards, and cloud accounts into a single folder
2. Decide on a structure and stick to it, e.g. folders named YYYY then YYYY-MM-Event
3. Sort roughly by year first, then break each year into events; don't aim for perfection on pass one
4. Delete obvious duplicates, blurry shots, and accidental screenshots as you go to cut the volume
5. Back up the finished archive in two places, such as an external drive plus a cloud service

Tips

• Tools like Google Photos, Apple Photos, or digiKam auto-sort by date and detect duplicates, saving hours
• Tackle it in time-boxed sessions by year rather than one marathon; it's tedious in bulk
• Scan a few physical prints with your phone camera so they join the same archive
