Nature Presser
25 pointshobbies & creativity
Collect and preserve botanical specimens using traditional pressing and drying methods.
How to complete Nature Presser
Flower pressing preserves the shape and color of plants by drying them flat under steady pressure. Done right, the result is a museum-quality specimen you can frame, journal, or use in cards, capturing a plant from a specific place and season.
- Pick flowers and leaves on a dry day, choosing flat, fresh specimens over thick or juicy ones
- Blot off any moisture and arrange each piece flat, spreading petals as you want them to dry
- Sandwich them between absorbent paper inside a heavy book or a dedicated flower press
- Stack extra weight on top and change the paper after a day or two to prevent mold
- Leave them pressing for two to four weeks until they feel papery and fully dry
Tips
- Thick blooms like roses press better split in half or sliced thin
- Swapping in dry paper early is the single best defense against browning and mold
- Note the date and location with each specimen if you want a real botanical record
What counts as done
You have flat, fully dried, intact plant specimens ready to mount or display.
