Astrophotography means pulling detail out of objects your eye can barely register, by gathering far more light than a single glance ever could. A sharp shot of Saturn's rings or the Orion Nebula proves you've mastered tracking, focus, and exposure under real night-sky conditions.

1. Match target to gear: planets and the Moon suit a telescope with a planetary camera; nebulae need a tracking mount and wide-field setup to counter Earth's rotation.
2. Find a dark site away from city light, check the forecast for clear, steady 'good seeing' skies, and let your equipment cool to ambient temperature.
3. Nail focus on a bright star using a Bahtinov mask or live-view zoom; even slight blur ruins everything.
4. For planets, record a video and stack the sharpest frames; for deep-sky, shoot many long exposures plus dark and flat calibration frames.
5. Stack and process in software like AutoStakkert, DeepSkyStacker, or Siril, then stretch and adjust to reveal faint detail.
