How to complete World Knowledge: Americas

Two continents of history usually get compressed into a handful of US-centric facts, leaving out empires, revolutions, and the first successful slave revolt in modern history. Learning five countries properly gives you actual stories to tell instead of trivia fragments.

1. Pick five countries spread across the region, for example Mexico, Guatemala, Haiti, Brazil, and Peru, rather than five neighbors.
2. For each, learn a fixed set of anchors: the pre-colonial peoples or civilization, who colonized it, how and when independence happened, and one defining modern event.
3. Use one focused source per country: the history section of its Wikipedia article, a podcast episode, or a documentary; an hour each is enough.
4. Write five facts per country in your own words; the act of writing is the first memory test.
5. A week later, retell each country's story out loud without notes and relearn whatever fell out.

Tips

• The surprising stories stick best: Haiti as the first Black republic in 1804, Bolivar liberating six countries, Brazil having its own emperor.
• Look for patterns like independence waves and shared colonial powers; connections hold better than isolated dates.
• Flag quizzes test recognition, not history; do not substitute them.
