The Warm Soak

Take a long bath or hot shower with the intentional goal of physical and mental relaxation.

How to complete The Warm Soak

A bath or shower taken purely to decompress, not to get clean efficiently. The heat relaxes muscles and the warm-then-cool drop afterward nudges your body toward sleep, which is why this works best in the evening.

  1. Set the water comfortably warm, not scalding; very hot water is draining rather than relaxing
  2. Remove distractions, leave the phone outside or out of reach so you're not scrolling in the tub
  3. Give it real time, aim for 15-20 minutes rather than a quick rinse
  4. Slow your breathing and consciously unclench your jaw, shoulders, and hands
  5. Step out gently and stay warm afterward instead of jumping straight back into busyness

Tips

  • Dim the lights or use a candle; bright bathroom lighting keeps you alert
  • Epsom salts, a few drops of lavender, or calm music deepen it but aren't required
  • Doing this 60-90 minutes before bed makes the post-soak cooldown work for your sleep

What counts as done

You spent a long, unhurried soak or shower with relaxation as the only goal and stepped out noticeably calmer.
