The Self-Care Budget

Spend money on a tool or service that specifically improves your mental health (gym, massage, therapy, app).

How to complete The Self-Care Budget

This is about treating your mental wellbeing as a line item worth paying for, not an afterthought you get to once everything else is covered. Putting real money behind one tool or service makes you more likely to actually use it and signals to yourself that your stability matters.

  1. Pick the single area where you feel the most strain right now: stress, loneliness, low mood, or physical tension.
  2. Match it to one concrete service: therapy or a counseling app for mood, a gym or class for stress, a massage for tension, a meditation subscription for racing thoughts.
  3. Set a realistic monthly number you can sustain without guilt rather than a one-time splurge you abandon.
  4. Book or subscribe today, and put the first session or visit in your calendar before you talk yourself out of it.
  5. Use it at least three times before judging whether it fits.

Tips

  • A cheaper option you actually attend beats a premium one you skip out of guilt.
  • If therapy feels out of budget, sliding-scale clinics and training-program counselors cost far less.
  • Cancel anything you haven't touched in a month and redirect the money to what you do use.

What counts as done
