The Sea Voyage

Spend at least 3 days on a ship or boat out of sight of land on the open water.

How to complete The Sea Voyage

This means three or more days where open water surrounds you in every direction and no coastline is visible, the real experience of being at sea rather than cruising the shore. It tests how you handle confinement, routine, and the rhythm of life away from land.

  1. Find a long-haul option: an ocean repositioning cruise, a cargo-ship passage, or crewing on a sailing yacht delivery
  2. Confirm the route actually spends days out of sight of land, not hopping between coastal ports
  3. Pack motion-sickness remedies and start them before you sail, not after symptoms hit
  4. Bring offline entertainment, books, and anything that does not need signal, since connectivity vanishes mid-ocean
  5. Set a daily routine of meals, watches, or activities to keep the long open-water days from blurring

Tips

  • Transatlantic repositioning cruises in spring and fall are the cheapest way to log multiple sea days
  • Cargo-ship passages are slower, sparser, and offer the most genuine open-ocean isolation
  • A horizon with zero land in any direction is the marker; coastal cruises with daily ports do not count

What counts as done

You spent three or more continuous days at sea with no land in sight.
