The Menagerie

Visit a zoo or wildlife sanctuary to see global animal lore in person.

How to complete The Menagerie

A trip to a proper zoo or wildlife sanctuary lets you see animals from across the planet up close, the ones you've only met in documentaries and stories. Choosing an accredited sanctuary over a roadside attraction also means your visit supports actual conservation.

  1. Pick an accredited zoo or a recognized wildlife sanctuary rather than a roadside animal stop
  2. Check the day's feeding times, keeper talks, and any timed exhibits before you go
  3. Arrive near opening when animals are most active and crowds are thin
  4. Spend real time at a few enclosures instead of rushing every one
  5. Catch at least one keeper talk to learn the story behind a species

Tips

  • Animals are sluggish in midday heat; mornings and cooler weather mean far more activity
  • Look for accreditation (AZA, GFAS, or local equivalent) as a sign of genuine animal welfare
  • Bring binoculars for large or open-range habitats where animals keep their distance
