The Hearth-Sharer
30 pointssocializing & friendship
Prepare a meal or baked goods and share them with your immediate neighbors to build community.
How to complete The Hearth-Sharer
You cook or bake a real portion and physically hand it to the people who live next to you. It's a low-stakes way to break the anonymity of living near strangers and open a door to future favors and friendliness.
- Pick something sturdy and shareable: a loaf, cookies, a jar of soup, not anything that needs reheating instructions
- Make extra of something you're already cooking so it's not a separate project
- Portion into containers you don't need back, or ones you're fine losing
- Knock in daylight, introduce yourself by name and door number, hand it over, keep it under two minutes
- Note any allergies or 'no thanks' for next time without taking it personally
Tips
- Add a small card with your name and what's in it; covers allergens and makes you memorable
- First time, skip anything requiring a fork eaten on the spot; drop-and-go is less awkward
- If no one answers, a labeled bag on the handle still counts and avoids the cold-doorstep stall
What counts as done
At least one neighbor received food made by you and now knows your name.
