The Family Check-In

Call a parent or guardian just to talk, with no specific request or agenda.

How to complete The Family Check-In

Calling a parent with nothing attached (not to ask a favor, not to solve a problem) is rarer than it sounds. The whole point is presence: letting them hear your voice and catching up simply because you wanted to.

  1. Call when you can genuinely talk, not while rushing out the door.
  2. Open with a real question about their day or what they've been up to lately.
  3. If a task or errand surfaces, note it quietly and steer back to the conversation.
  4. Share something small from your own week so it flows both directions.

Tips

  • A voice or video call beats texting here, since tone carries what typing can't.
  • Ten unhurried minutes is plenty; you don't need a reason to start or end.

What counts as done

You called a parent or guardian and talked with no request or errand driving the call.
