How to complete Regular Giver
One shift makes you a visitor; ten make you part of the operation. Charities run on the small core of people who actually come back, and somewhere around this count coordinators stop handing you stranger-tasks and start trusting you with real responsibility. Ten shifts is also long enough to find out whether the cause genuinely fits you or just sounded good.
- Choose one organization and stick with it rather than sampling ten different ones — becoming a known repeat helper is the whole point.
- Ask the coordinator for a recurring slot, like every second Saturday morning. A default time kills the weekly should-I-go negotiation.
- Log every shift somewhere concrete — calendar, notes app, or your tracker — so the count is real and not vibes.
- Before leaving each shift, confirm the next one; the handoff moment is when commitment costs the least willpower.
- Around shift four or five, ask for more responsibility: training newcomers, owning a station, helping close up.
- If motivation dips midway, switch tasks within the same organization before switching organizations — variety usually fixes it.
Tips
- Pick a role matched to your life: physical work if you sit all day, your professional skills if you want them to matter. Mismatched roles are the main reason people quit.
- Shift lengths vary wildly, so count outings rather than hours — a two-hour shift is not cheating.
- Miss a week? Just book the next one. Totals matter here, streaks don't.
What counts as done
Ten completed shifts on record with the same organization — staff greeting you by name is the unofficial confirmation.
