The General Checkup

Attend your annual physical exam with a general practitioner. Baseline health recorded.

How to complete The General Checkup

An annual physical catches the silent stuff (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar) before it becomes a problem you feel. It also builds a baseline so a doctor can spot changes over years rather than reacting to a crisis.

  1. Book an appointment with a GP or primary care provider; if you don't have one, register with a local practice first.
  2. Ask whether to fast beforehand, since cholesterol and glucose panels often need an empty stomach.
  3. Bring a list of current medications, family history, and any symptoms or questions you've been sitting on.
  4. Get the standard checks done: blood pressure, weight, and bloodwork if ordered.
  5. Ask for your results and what the numbers mean, then book any follow-ups or screenings they recommend.

Tips

  • Write your questions down beforehand; you'll forget half of them in the room.
  • If cost is a barrier, ask about community clinics or what your insurance covers as preventive care.
  • Keep a copy of your results so next year's visit has something to compare against.

What counts as done

You've attended the appointment and have your baseline results (or a follow-up plan) in hand.
