The Blood Panel

Complete a comprehensive blood test and actually review the results with a doctor.

How to complete The Blood Panel

Rising cholesterol, prediabetes, low iron, a sluggish thyroid: these show up in blood work years before you feel anything. The achievement is not the needle. It is sitting down with a doctor and actually understanding your numbers instead of filing the PDF away.

  1. Ask your doctor for a comprehensive panel: typically CBC, metabolic panel, lipids, HbA1c, and TSH, plus vitamin D and ferritin if fatigue is a theme.
  2. Confirm whether you need to fast, usually 8 to 12 hours with water allowed, and book a morning draw.
  3. Get your own copy of the results as soon as they are ready.
  4. Book a follow-up, even a telehealth call, and go through every flagged value: what it means, whether it matters, what to do.
  5. Leave with specifics written down: what to change and when to retest.

Tips

  • Resist Googling isolated out-of-range values at 2am. Many are noise, and trends across years matter more than any single number.
  • Keep results in one folder so next year's panel has a baseline to compare against.
  • If the doctor says everything is normal, still ask which values are drifting toward the edge of the range.

What counts as done

You have reviewed the results with a clinician and can name your key numbers and your next retest date.
