1. Pick one work you're genuinely curious about rather than the longest or most prestigious
2. Read a one-paragraph summary of the historical context first so the references land
3. Read in steady chunks and keep a few notes on recurring ideas, not just plot
4. After finishing, write two or three sentences naming the central themes in your own words

Tips

• A good annotated edition's footnotes save you from getting lost in archaic language
• If the prose stalls you, pair the text with a quality audiobook to keep momentum
• Skip the SparkNotes until after you've formed your own read, then use them to check yourself
