Organ Donor
15 pointsbasic health & wellness
Officially register as an organ donor — the greatest legacy item you can leave behind.
How to complete Organ Donor
Registering takes about two minutes and is one of the few decisions where the paperwork itself is the achievement: one registered donor can save up to eight lives and improve dozens more through tissue donation. It also spares your family from having to guess your wishes at the worst possible moment.
- Find your country's official registry — in the US it is registerme.org or the checkbox at DMV license renewal; in the UK, the NHS Organ Donor Register; most countries have a national equivalent.
- Complete the online form with your ID details; some registries let you specify which organs and tissues to include.
- Tell your closest family that you registered and that you mean it — in many countries they are still consulted, and knowing your decision was deliberate makes them far more likely to honor it.
- Carry the indicator: the heart symbol on your license, a donor card, or an entry in your phone's medical ID.
Tips
- The family conversation is not optional decoration — relatives who never heard your wishes override registrations surprisingly often.
- Registration is fully revocable; you can amend or withdraw it anytime.
- Some countries run opt-out systems where everyone is presumed a donor — check whether your job is to register or simply to inform your family.
- Almost no medical condition disqualifies you outright; doctors assess usability at the time, so register regardless.
What counts as done
Your name is in the official donor registry, confirmed by email, donor card, or the marker on your driver's license.
