How to complete Starbound Student

Learning to read the night sky means recognizing patterns that have guided people for millennia and being able to find them again on your own. Five constellations is enough to orient yourself and start star-hopping to anything else.

1. Install a stargazing app (Stellarium, SkyView) and point it at the sky to match real stars to constellation outlines.
2. Start with the easiest anchors: the Big Dipper, Orion, Cassiopeia, then use them to find others.
3. Use the Big Dipper's pointer stars to locate Polaris and the Little Dipper.
4. Get away from streetlights on a clear, moonless night and let your eyes dark-adapt for 15-20 minutes.
5. Practice finding all five without the app until you can spot them from memory.

Tips

• Check which constellations are actually visible for your latitude and season before you go out.
• Red flashlight or your phone's red mode preserves night vision; white light resets it.
• Orion is a winter standout in the north; the Big Dipper and Cassiopeia rotate around Polaris year-round.
