Nature Bathing

Spend at least one hour in a forest, park, or by a body of water with zero technology.

How to complete Nature Bathing

Based on the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, this is an hour of unhurried time in green or blue space with no device pulling at you. It's not exercise or a destination hike; the slowness and the lack of a screen are the active ingredients.

  1. Pick somewhere genuinely natural, a forest, large park, river, lake, or shoreline, not a busy street
  2. Put your phone on airplane mode or leave it behind so there's nothing to check
  3. Walk slowly or sit; this is about presence, not covering distance or hitting steps
  4. Tune into the senses, the sounds, the smell of trees or water, the light, the air on your skin
  5. Stay the full hour, resisting the urge to cut it short or pull the phone out

Tips

  • Going alone, or agreeing to stay quiet with a companion, keeps it from turning into a chat
  • Early morning or late afternoon light is calmer and the spaces are emptier
  • Even a single large tree-filled park counts if true wilderness isn't nearby

What counts as done

You spent a full hour in a natural setting, completely device-free, with no agenda but being there.
