Nature Bathing
10 pointsmental health & self-care
Spend at least one hour in a forest, park, or by a body of water with zero technology.
How to complete Nature Bathing
Based on the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, this is an hour of unhurried time in green or blue space with no device pulling at you. It's not exercise or a destination hike; the slowness and the lack of a screen are the active ingredients.
- Pick somewhere genuinely natural, a forest, large park, river, lake, or shoreline, not a busy street
- Put your phone on airplane mode or leave it behind so there's nothing to check
- Walk slowly or sit; this is about presence, not covering distance or hitting steps
- Tune into the senses, the sounds, the smell of trees or water, the light, the air on your skin
- Stay the full hour, resisting the urge to cut it short or pull the phone out
Tips
- Going alone, or agreeing to stay quiet with a companion, keeps it from turning into a chat
- Early morning or late afternoon light is calmer and the spaces are emptier
- Even a single large tree-filled park counts if true wilderness isn't nearby
What counts as done
You spent a full hour in a natural setting, completely device-free, with no agenda but being there.
