Land-Only Journey
45 pointstravel & exploration
Travel across 3 or more countries using only land-based transit (no planes).
How to complete Land-Only Journey
Crossing three countries by train, bus, ferry, or car forces you to see the in-between that flights erase: border towns, shifting landscape, the moment one language fades into the next. It is slower on purpose, so the travel itself becomes the trip instead of dead time.
- Pick a corridor with open, connected land borders, such as overland Europe, Southeast Asia, or South America.
- Map the route by rail and bus first, booking long-distance trains early where seats sell out.
- Check visa and crossing rules per border, since some entries are valid only at airports.
- Add buffer days so one missed connection does not strand you.
- Keep passport, tickets, and a little local cash reachable for each crossing.
Tips
- Night trains and night buses save a hotel night and a travel day at the same time.
- Rail passes pay off only across several long legs; price your exact route before buying one.
- Some land borders are cash-only or charge exit fees, so carry small bills in the right currency.
What counts as done
You entered and exited three or more countries without boarding a single flight, with stamps or tickets to show it.
