Island Hopper
30 pointstravel & exploration
Visit 5 or more different islands in a single archipelago during one trip.
How to complete Island Hopper
Hitting five islands in one archipelago on a single trip means actually moving through a place by boat or ferry rather than parking on one beach. Each island in a chain usually has its own character, so the reward is seeing how they differ across a short distance.
- Choose one archipelago with good links between islands (Greek Cyclades, Croatia's Dalmatian coast, the Philippines, Hawaii)
- Map a logical route so ferries connect in sequence instead of backtracking
- Book inter-island ferries or flights early in peak season; popular routes sell out
- Pack light in one carry-on bag so frequent transfers stay painless
- Give each island at least a half-day on the ground, not just a port stop
Tips
- Buy a multi-leg ferry pass if the operator offers one
- Keep buffer time between connections; island ferries run late or get cancelled in wind
- Base on a hub island and day-trip if luggage shuffling gets tiring
What counts as done
You've set foot on five or more distinct islands of the same archipelago within one continuous trip.
