Forgiveness Granted
60 pointsmental health & self-care
Consciously choose to forgive someone to release the weight of the grudge.
How to complete Forgiveness Granted
Forgiveness here is an internal release, not a message you send or a reconciliation you owe anyone: it's deciding to stop carrying resentment that costs you more than the person who wronged you. It doesn't excuse what happened or require contact; it frees the mental space the grudge has been renting.
- Pick one specific grudge you're still actively replaying, not a vague "everyone who hurt me."
- Write out exactly what happened and how it affected you: name the harm honestly before releasing it.
- Separate the act from the person: you can condemn what they did and still drop the resentment.
- Decide consciously that holding on no longer serves you, and say or write that you're letting it go.
- Re-choose forgiveness gently each time the resentment resurfaces, rather than expecting it to vanish at once.
Tips
- Forgiving is for you: it doesn't require their apology, awareness, or presence in your life.
- Forgiveness and boundaries coexist; you can forgive someone and still keep them out of your life.
- For deep wounds like abuse or betrayal, a therapist helps you do this without re-traumatizing yourself.
What counts as done
You can recall the event without the old surge of resentment and have genuinely chosen to release the grudge.
