First Aid Mastery

Memorize the treatment protocols for 10 different medical emergencies.

How to complete First Aid Mastery

Knowing fixed protocols means you can act in the seconds before help arrives instead of freezing up. Focus on emergencies you're statistically likely to witness rather than exotic ones, and aim for recall under stress, not passing a written quiz.

  1. Take an in-person certified course (Red Cross, St John, or local equivalent) so you practice CPR and the recovery position on a manikin, not just on paper.
  2. Pick your 10 deliberately: cardiac arrest, choking, severe bleeding, anaphylaxis, stroke, seizure, burns, fractures, hypoglycemia, drowning.
  3. For each, learn the recognition signs first, then the action sequence (e.g. stroke = FAST: face, arms, speech, time).
  4. Drill the universal opening every time: check scene safety, check responsiveness, call emergency services, then treat.
  5. Memorize the numbers that matter: 30:2 compressions at 100-120/min and 5cm depth; epinephrine before antihistamine for anaphylaxis.
  6. Rehearse each scenario out loud until you can run it start to finish without notes.

Tips

  • Refresh CPR every year or two; hand position and ratios are what people forget first.
  • Save your local emergency number and poison control in your phone now, not mid-crisis.
  • Acronyms beat prose under adrenaline: FAST, DRABC, RICE.

What counts as done

You can name and run the full recognition-plus-treatment sequence for all 10 emergencies from memory, ideally backed by a current certification card.
