Dopamine Fast

Spend 4 hours avoiding 'cheap' dopamine (scrolling, video games, sugar, caffeine) to reset your brain.

How to complete Dopamine Fast

A short, intentional break from the quick hits, scrolling, gaming, sugar, caffeine, so your baseline stops needing constant stimulation to feel okay. Four hours is enough to notice how restless your brain has gotten and to let it settle.

  1. Pick a 4-hour block when you won't need to work or be online, mornings or a free afternoon work well.
  2. Before you start, write down what's off-limits: phone scrolling, games, sweets, coffee, and any other go-to hit.
  3. Put the phone in another room, don't just rely on willpower with it in your pocket.
  4. Replace, don't just remove: line up a walk, a book, a chore, or a real conversation to fill the space.
  5. Let the boredom and itchiness happen; that discomfort is the point, not a sign you're doing it wrong.

Tips

  • The first 30 to 60 minutes are the hardest; the urge to reach for your phone fades if you don't feed it.
  • Plain water and a notepad are your friends, jot down the urges instead of acting on them.
  • Don't swap one hit for another (trading scrolling for binge-eating defeats it).

What counts as done

You completed a full 4 hours with zero cheap-dopamine inputs and noticed the cravings rise and pass.
