Digital Sabbath
30 pointsmental health & self-care
Go an entire 24 hours without looking at a single digital screen. Return to the analog world.
How to complete Digital Sabbath
A full day with zero screens of any kind, resetting a nervous system trained to check, scroll, and refresh on reflex. The goal isn't punishment; it's rediscovering how time feels when it isn't sliced up by notifications.
- Pick a day with no work obligations and tell anyone who'd worry that you'll be offline.
- The night before, set an old-fashioned alarm clock so you don't need your phone to wake up.
- Power the phone fully off and physically stash it in a drawer; a screen you can see is a screen you'll touch.
- Plan analog things to fill the hours: a long walk, cooking, a book, seeing people in person.
- Keep a paper notepad for the urges and ideas you'd normally type into your phone.
Tips
- Expect phantom phone-checks and boredom in the first few hours; they pass and the day opens up.
- Tell people in advance rather than going dark mid-conversation, so silence doesn't read as an emergency.
- Count TV, tablets, e-readers, and smartwatches as screens; a true reset means all of them off.
What counts as done
You go a continuous 24 hours without viewing any screen and come out the other side.
