Breathwork Initiate

Complete a 5-minute guided breathing session (box breathing or 4-7-8) to lower your cortisol levels.

How to complete Breathwork Initiate

Slow, structured breathing is one of the fastest ways to switch your body out of fight-or-flight, because a long exhale directly signals the vagus nerve to stand the system down. Five focused minutes of box breathing or 4-7-8 is enough to drop tension you can physically feel.

  1. Pick one method: box breathing (in 4, hold 4, out 4, hold 4) or 4-7-8 (in 4, hold 7, out 8).
  2. Sit upright somewhere quiet with your back supported and shoulders loose.
  3. Breathe in through your nose into your belly, not your chest: your stomach should rise more than your shoulders.
  4. Follow a guided audio or visual timer so you're not counting in your head.
  5. Keep the exhale slow and complete; the long out-breath does most of the calming work.
  6. Run it a full 5 minutes, then sit a moment before standing.

Tips

  • If 4-7-8's holds feel like too much, shorten them proportionally and build up.
  • Lightheaded means you're overbreathing, so ease off the depth and don't force it.
  • Same time each day, at waking or bedtime, makes it stick faster than random sessions.

What counts as done

You've done five uninterrupted minutes on one pattern and notice your heart rate or tension settle.
