Year of the Athlete

Log at least one workout per week for 12 consecutive months.

How to complete Year of the Athlete

One workout a week sounds trivial until you have to do it through flu season, vacations, deadlines, and dark winter Mondays, 52 times without a gap. The point is not training volume but proving that exercise survives contact with your real life, which is exactly the habit that keeps people fit for decades.

  1. Define what counts up front: for example, 30 or more minutes of deliberate exercise, whether that is lifting, running, a class, or a hard hike.
  2. Pick one logging tool and stick with it: Strava, a habit app, or a paper calendar with an X per week.
  3. Schedule a default slot early in the week; a Monday or Tuesday workout leaves the rest of the week as backup.
  4. Write down your fallback minimum, like a 30-minute bodyweight circuit at home, for weeks with travel or illness.
  5. Review the log at the end of each month so a thin week gets caught while there is still time to fix it.

Tips

  • Never leave the week's workout for Sunday; one bad day ends a six-month streak.
  • Decide before starting whether weeks run Monday to Sunday or as rolling seven-day windows, not when it becomes ambiguous.
  • When sick, a long brisk walk can count if your definition allows it; finishing the year beats heroics.
  • Log the workout the moment it ends; retroactive memory is how streaks die on paper.

What counts as done

Your log shows at least one workout in every one of 52 consecutive weeks, with no empty week anywhere.
