Full Split
60 pointsfitness & sports
Achieve a full front split with both hips square on the floor.
How to complete Full Split
A full front split is a months-long mobility project, not a party trick you force in a week, and the square-hips requirement makes it honest: no twisting sideways to fake depth. Chasing it systematically improves hip and hamstring flexibility that carries over to running, lifting, and everyday movement.
- Photograph your current best attempt from the side as a baseline.
- Warm up with five minutes of leg swings, lunges, or light cardio before every stretching session; never stretch cold.
- Build a 15-20 minute routine around low lunge, half split, standing hamstring folds, and pigeon pose, holding each stretch 45-90 seconds per side.
- Practice the split position itself with yoga blocks or books under your hands, lowering support height as you progress.
- Keep both hip bones facing forward in every session; a shallower square split beats a deeper twisted one.
- Repeat four to six days per week and re-take the baseline photo monthly.
Tips
- Expect three to twelve months depending on your starting point and age; missed weeks set you back fast.
- Sharp pain means stop; a strong pulling sensation is the working zone.
- Contract-relax technique, tensing the stretched muscle for five seconds then releasing deeper, accelerates progress notably.
- Train both sides even though one will always lag.
What counts as done
Both legs fully flat on the floor, hips square to the front leg, held for a few breaths, on each side, ideally on camera.
