The Skater
40 pointsfitness & sports
Learn to 'Ollie' on a skateboard or successfully skate 5km on inline skates.
How to complete The Skater
This is your entry into wheeled mobility: either the ollie, skateboarding's foundational trick that unlocks nearly every other one, or a sustained 5 km on inline skates that proves real balance and control. Both demand committing to motion when instinct screams to bail. Pick the path that fits your gear and stick with it until it clicks.
- For the ollie: master rolling, then pop the tail down hard while sliding your front foot up the grip
- Practice the ollie stationary on grass or carpet first so the board can't shoot out
- For inline: learn to stride, glide, and crucially to stop with a T-stop or heel brake before going distance
- Map a flat 5 km path on smooth pavement, avoiding gravel, hills, and traffic
- Wear wrist guards and a helmet so a fall costs you nothing but a moment
Tips
- Ollie height comes from the front-foot slide, not jumping with your legs
- On skates, bend your knees and keep weight forward; standing stiff guarantees a fall
- Film an ollie attempt to check if all four wheels actually leave the ground
What counts as done
You land an ollie with both wheels clearly off the ground, or log a continuous 5 km on inline skates.
