The Marathon

Complete a full 42.2-kilometer marathon. A legendary endurance feat.

How to complete The Marathon

42.2 kilometers run continuously, far enough that around the 30km mark your body runs low on stored fuel and willpower, the famous 'wall.' Completing it is a benchmark that respects months of preparation, not a weekend whim.

  1. Commit to a 12-20 week plan and don't compress it; the long buildup is what protects you.
  2. Grow your weekly long run gradually toward 30-35km, keeping most other runs at an easy conversational pace.
  3. Practice race-day fueling on long runs: gels or carbs every 30-45 minutes plus fluids.
  4. Pick and rehearse a realistic goal pace, planning to start slightly conservative.
  5. Taper for the final 2-3 weeks, cutting volume while keeping a little intensity.

Tips

  • The most common rookie error is starting too fast on fresh legs: bank patience, not seconds.
  • Never debut new shoes, gels, or breakfast on race morning; rehearse all of it.
  • Carb-load the day or two before so your glycogen tanks are full at the gun.
