Sub-30 5K

Run 5 kilometers in under 30 minutes.
How to complete Sub-30 5K
Running 5K under 30 minutes means holding roughly a 6:00/km (9:39/mile) pace the whole way, the classic line between casual jogger and trained recreational runner. It requires both aerobic base and the discipline to pace evenly instead of starting too fast.
- Build a running base of three sessions a week until you can jog 5K nonstop.
- Add one weekly interval session (e.g. 5-6 x 800m at goal pace) to raise your speed.
- Practice even pacing with a watch; learn what 6:00/km actually feels like.
- Run a slightly downhill or flat, measured course for the attempt.
- Race fresh on rested legs, settling into goal pace from the first kilometer.
Tips
- Don't sprint the opening kilometer: banked time early costs you double late.
- Negative-split it: aim to run the back half as fast or faster than the front.
- A parkrun or measured GPS route gives a clean, verifiable time.
What counts as done
A GPS watch or timed race showing 5.0 km completed in 29:59 or faster.
