Ice/Roller Specialist

Successfully navigate an ice rink or pavement on skates without utilizing the wall for balance.

How to complete Ice/Roller Specialist

Crossing a full rink or stretch of pavement on skates using only your own balance, never the wall. It's the jump from a clinging beginner to someone who can actually glide and stop on their own.

  1. Push off from the wall and glide a few meters before reaching back for it.
  2. Practice marching in place on the skates to find your balance over the blades or wheels.
  3. Bend your knees and keep weight slightly forward; standing stiff and upright is what tips you over.
  4. Learn one stopping technique (snowplow or T-stop on ice, a drag on wheels) so you trust yourself in the open.
  5. Head for the middle and complete a full lap without touching the boards.

Tips

  • Falling forward onto knees and hands is safer than backward; wear pads while learning.
  • Look ahead where you're going, not down at your feet.
  • Rental skates run loose, so lace the top tightly for ankle support.

What counts as done

You skate a full lap or cross the surface unaided, never grabbing the wall to stay upright.
