Half Century (Km)

Complete a 50-kilometer bicycle ride in a single session.

How to complete Half Century (Km)

Fifty kilometers in one ride is the classic step up from casual spinning to genuine endurance cycling, usually two to three hours in the saddle. The challenge is as much about pacing and fueling as leg strength: most people who fail bonk or seize up, not because their legs gave out outright. Finish one and longer rides stop feeling intimidating.

  1. Build up over a few weeks with rides of 20, then 30, then 40 km before attempting 50
  2. Plan a route and check it's roughly 50 km with manageable climbs and safe roads
  3. Eat a real meal beforehand and carry a snack to eat around the halfway mark
  4. Start slower than feels necessary so you have legs left for the back half
  5. Drink regularly from the start rather than waiting until you're already thirsty

Tips

  • Set proper saddle height; a too-low seat is the fastest route to dead quads
  • Padded shorts make hour three dramatically more bearable
  • A tailwind-out route means a brutal headwind home, so plan the loop accordingly
