How to complete The Proposal

A proposal converts a private understanding into a stated commitment: you are asking someone to plan the rest of their life with you. The hard part is not the staging; it is being certain enough to ask, and building that certainty is most of the achievement.

1. Confirm you already agree on the big topics: kids, money, where you will live, what marriage means to each of you. The proposal should be a surprise; the answer should not be.
2. If a ring is expected, learn the size and taste: borrow one they own or recruit a friend. Budget what you can actually afford, not a salary formula.
3. Pick a setting that fits their personality, not a feed. Private people mostly hate stadium screens.
4. Plan the words: one or two sentences about why them, then the question. Memorize the opening line; the rest can wobble.
5. Ask. If you are the one being asked, a clear yes counts just as much.
