The Home-Cooked Streak

Prepare 100% of your meals at home for 30 consecutive days (no takeout).

How to complete The Home-Cooked Streak

This is a logistics challenge more than a cooking one: the streak breaks on the tired Tuesday when nothing is thawed and the delivery app is right there. Cooking every meal for a month forces a real rhythm of shopping, prepping and reheating, and usually exposes how much money and sodium your takeout habit was quietly adding.

  1. Plan a rotating set of 5-7 dishes you can cook half-asleep, so you never face a blank menu.
  2. Batch-cook on one weekend day and portion meals into the fridge and freezer as your safety net.
  3. Keep a stocked pantry of fast bases (eggs, pasta, rice, canned beans, frozen veg) for nights with no plan.
  4. Pack lunch the night before so the workday doesn't quietly force a bought meal.
  5. Pre-write your move for social nights: cook before going out, or host instead of meeting at a restaurant.

Tips

  • Define your rules up front: coffee and a friend's home cooking usually fine; a bought sandwich breaks it.
  • The danger window is the late, hungry, unprepared evening; a freezer meal beats willpower every time.
  • Assembling components (rotisserie-style chicken you roasted, pre-cut veg) counts as home-cooked; reheating restaurant leftovers does not.

What counts as done
