1. Set a stepstool on dry, level floor and test it before you climb.
2. Lift loose dust first with a dry cloth or vacuum brush so you don't smear it.
3. Follow with a damp cloth and a little degreaser for the sticky kitchen film.
4. Lay parchment or newspaper on top afterward to catch future dust for easy swaps.

Tips

• Wear a mask: the buildup up there is thicker and greasier than it looks.
• Use a proper step ladder or have someone steady the stool; don't balance on a chair.
