The Cookie Denier

Actually 'Manage Preferences' and reject non-essential cookies on a website instead of hitting 'Accept All'.

How to complete The Cookie Denier

Clicking 'Accept All' hands a site every tracking cookie its ad partners asked for; the 'Manage Preferences' path lets you keep the login and cart cookies and refuse the rest. Doing it once shows how little the banner actually needs from you.

  1. On the cookie banner, click 'Manage Preferences,' 'Settings,' or 'Customize' instead of the large accept button.
  2. Leave 'strictly necessary' cookies on, since they are usually locked anyway and keep the site functioning.
  3. Toggle off the Marketing, Analytics, and Personalization categories.
  4. Click 'Save Preferences' or 'Confirm Choices,' not 'Accept All.'

Tips

  • Watch for dark patterns: 'Reject All' is often hidden, greyed out, or one layer deeper than 'Accept.'
  • A browser extension like Consent-O-Matic can auto-reject on every site if you'd rather not click through each one.

What counts as done

You saved a cookie choice with the non-essential categories switched off and the site still loaded normally.
