Bartering trades value directly, skill for skill or item for service, with no money changing hands. Pulling it off forces you to price what your abilities are worth to someone else and builds a useful local network in the process.

1. Identify what you can offer: a skill like editing, repair, tutoring, or design, or an item someone wants.
2. Find a counterpart who needs it and has something you want, through barter groups, neighbors, or local Facebook groups.
3. Agree explicitly on scope: what each side delivers and by when, so nobody feels shortchanged.
4. Deliver your end in full, then collect theirs.

Tips

• Match the value roughly; lopsided trades breed resentment and end the relationship.
• Spell out the deal in a written message so both sides remember the terms.
• In many countries barter is technically taxable income, so know the rules if the values are high.
