The Autoplay Ban

Turn off 'Autoplay next episode' on all streaming platforms to regain control of your time.

How to complete The Autoplay Ban

Turning off autoplay removes the default that pulls you into a fourth episode you didn't decide to watch. The point is to make continuing a deliberate choice instead of an opt-out you have to fight.

  1. Open Netflix on a browser, go to Account, pick each profile's Playback settings, and uncheck 'Autoplay next episode'
  2. In YouTube, toggle off Autoplay on the player and disable it in settings to stop the up-next slide
  3. Repeat for the rest you use: Disney+, Prime, Max, Hulu each bury the toggle in profile or playback settings
  4. Where offered, also disable autoplay previews that start playing on hover

Tips

  • Netflix's autoplay setting is per profile and only changes via browser, not the TV app
  • Some apps reset the toggle after major updates, so recheck if episodes start chaining again
  • Pair this with a hard end-time so the gap between episodes becomes a real stopping point

What counts as done

An episode ends and the app waits on a menu instead of counting down into the next one.
