Showerhead Descale
10 pointschores & home
Soak your crusty showerhead in vinegar to remove hard water buildup and restore water pressure.
How to complete Showerhead Descale
Mineral deposits from hard water clog the tiny nozzles on a showerhead, weakening and splitting the spray over time. A vinegar soak dissolves that calcium and lime buildup chemically, so you get full pressure back without scrubbing or buying a new head.
- Fill a sturdy plastic bag with white vinegar, enough to submerge the showerhead's face
- Bag the head and secure it with a rubber band or zip tie so the nozzles stay soaked; no need to unscrew it
- Leave it 1-4 hours (overnight for heavy crust), then remove the bag
- Run hot water for a minute, then scrub stubborn nozzles with an old toothbrush and wipe each jet
Tips
- Skip vinegar on nickel, brass, or gold finishes for long soaks; it can dull the coating, so check the manufacturer first
- Gently rub each rubber nozzle with your thumb afterward to pop loose any softened deposits
- For a really bad head, unscrew it and soak fully submerged in a bowl
What counts as done
Water sprays evenly from every jet again at full pressure, with no white crust on the face.
