Mattress Flipped

20 pointschores & home

Rotate or flip your heavy mattress to prevent sagging.

How to complete Mattress Flipped

Sleeping in the same spot night after night compresses one area of a mattress, creating a sag and a dent. Rotating it (or flipping, if it's double-sided) spreads that wear evenly so the mattress stays supportive and lasts years longer.

  1. Strip the bed and check the label or manufacturer guidance; many modern foam and pillow-top mattresses are one-sided and should only be rotated, never flipped
  2. Clear the area and grab a second person for anything queen-sized or larger
  3. Rotate 180 degrees so the head end becomes the foot end; flip top-to-bottom only if it's double-sided
  4. Vacuum the exposed mattress and the bed base while it's bare
  5. Note the date so you keep to a schedule

Tips

  • Rotate every 3-6 months; set a phone reminder since it's easy to forget
  • Flipping a one-sided pillow-top mattress ruins the comfort layer, so confirm the type first
  • Use the handles if it has them, and lift rather than drag to avoid tearing seams

What counts as done

The mattress sits with its head and foot ends swapped (or flipped if double-sided) and the bed is remade.
