Location Tracking Disabled
10 pointsdigital hygiene
Revoke 'Always On' location access for apps that absolutely don't need it to function.
How to complete Location Tracking Disabled
Plenty of apps request constant location access they never genuinely need, which drains battery and feeds a movement profile sold to data brokers. Downgrading them to 'while using' or 'never' kills that background tracking without breaking any feature you rely on.
- Open your phone's location privacy settings and view every app holding a location permission.
- For each, decide if it needs location only while open; set games, shopping, and social apps to 'Never' or 'Ask'.
- Reserve 'While Using' for maps, weather, and rides, and 'Always' only for things like find-my-phone.
- Turn off 'Precise Location' for apps that only need your city, like weather or news.
- Watch the location indicator over a few days to catch anything still tracking in the background.
Tips
- 'While Using' covers nearly every legitimate case; almost nothing consumer-facing truly needs 'Always'.
- Check System Services and switch off location-based ads and significant-locations history while you're in there.
What counts as done
No non-essential app still holds 'Always' location access when you scroll the full permission list.
