Information Diet
40 pointsdigital hygiene
Curate your news feeds to remove anxiety-inducing clickbait while staying globally informed.
How to complete Information Diet
This is about engineering your feeds so you stay aware of what matters without the dread-and-outrage churn that clickbait runs on. Done right, you read less but understand more, and you stop refreshing for a hit of anxiety dressed up as being informed.
- Audit what currently feeds you and note which sources leave you anxious versus actually informed
- Unfollow or mute the outrage-bait accounts and outlets that trade in panic headlines
- Replace them with a few measured sources: a wire service, a weekly briefing, or an editor-curated newsletter
- Switch from infinite scrolling to scheduled check-ins, like once mid-morning and once in the evening
- Use feed controls, RSS readers, or 'not interested' signals to retrain algorithmic recommendations
Tips
- A daily or weekly digest beats a live feed for staying informed without the doomscroll
- Mute keywords for topics that spike your anxiety but that you can't meaningfully act on
- Notice how you feel after a session, that gut check is the best filter for what to keep
What counts as done
A week of feeds where you still know the day's real news but no longer feel baited or wrung out by it.
