Extension Purge

Review your browser extensions and remove anything you didn't explicitly install or no longer need.

How to complete Extension Purge

Browser extensions accumulate from one-off needs and bundled installs, and each can watch your browsing, slow page loads, or quietly change hands to a sketchy new owner. Trimming to the few you use shrinks your attack surface and speeds things up.

  1. Open your extensions page (chrome://extensions, about:addons, or edge://extensions)
  2. Remove anything you don't remember installing or haven't touched in months
  3. For the keepers, review permissions; 'read and change all your data on all sites' deserves a hard look
  4. Disable rather than delete when you're unsure you'll want it back soon

Tips

  • Check each survivor's last-updated date and reviews, since abandoned extensions are a security risk
  • Coupon finders, PDF tools, and 'free VPN' add-ons are common data-sellers worth dropping
