Continental Palate

Sample traditional dishes from 10 different national cuisines. Expand your culinary horizons.

How to complete Continental Palate

Eating across ten national cuisines pushes you past the two or three takeout defaults most people rotate through and builds a real map of how different cultures cook. The goal is a genuine traditional dish from each, not a westernized stand-in.

  1. List ten countries whose food you have barely tried, mixing regions: think Ethiopian, Korean, Peruvian, Lebanese, Vietnamese, rather than ten European neighbors.
  2. For each, pick one signature, traditional dish (injera with wat, bibimbap, ceviche) instead of a generic fusion item.
  3. Seek out a restaurant run by people from that culture, or cook the dish at home from a regional recipe.
  4. Note what you ate and one thing that surprised you about each, so it sticks as more than a checkbox.
  5. Knock out one new cuisine per week or two to keep momentum without it feeling like a chore.

Tips

  • Family-run, unglamorous spots usually serve more authentic versions than polished fusion places.
  • Ask staff what locals actually order rather than defaulting to the most familiar menu item.
  • Cooking one dish yourself counts and often teaches you more than ordering it.

What counts as done

You have a list of ten distinct national cuisines, each with a specific traditional dish you actually ate.
