Contact List Purge

Delete the phone numbers of people you haven't spoken to or needed in over 5 years.

How to complete Contact List Purge

A bloated contact list slows search, makes autocomplete pick the wrong person, and clutters every sync. Most of it is people you'll never reach again. Cutting the dead weight makes the phone you actually use feel sharper.

  1. Scroll your contacts and flag anyone you can't place by name or haven't contacted in five-plus years.
  2. Cross-check each flag against your call and message history to confirm there's genuinely been no recent contact.
  3. Delete duplicates, old landlines, one-time vendors, and the 'John from that thing in 2018' entries.
  4. Keep emergency, medical, and financial contacts regardless of how long it's been.

Tips

  • Export a backup (vCard or Google Contacts export) first so a regretted delete is recoverable.
  • Merge duplicates with the built-in link/merge option rather than deleting one of the pair.

What counts as done

A noticeably shorter list with the stale, unidentifiable, and long-dead numbers gone.
