The Internship

Complete a formal internship program, gaining the 'Professional Experience' boost.

How to complete The Internship

An internship converts classroom knowledge into a line on your resume that employers actually trust, and it is the cheapest way to test-drive an industry before committing years to it. Finishing the full program, not just landing it, is what earns the experience boost.

  1. Start applications six to nine months ahead; large companies fill summer intern slots by late autumn.
  2. Apply in volume (twenty to fifty targeted applications is normal) and lean on your school's career office, which often has direct pipelines.
  3. In week one, ask your manager what a successful internship looks like and write those goals down.
  4. Deliver at least one finished piece of work you can name and describe later, not just shadowing.
  5. In your final week, request written feedback and a reference or LinkedIn recommendation while your work is fresh.

Tips

  • Small companies reply faster and hand interns real responsibility; don't chase brand names only.
  • Say yes to coffee chats outside your team: interns get access regular employees don't.
  • Keep a weekly log of what you did; you'll need the specifics for future interviews.

What counts as done

The program's official end date passes with you still in it, with a certificate, final review, or return offer to show for it.
