This is committing to a physical move to a new city because the opportunity there outweighs the comfort of staying put. The hard part isn't the boxes, it's untangling your old life and rebuilding a support network from zero.

1. Lock the opportunity first: signed offer, lease, or confirmed program before you give notice anywhere
2. Visit the city if you can, or at least scout neighborhoods by commute time and cost of living, not just listings
3. Build a moving budget covering deposits, first/last month, transport, and a buffer for the gap before income starts
4. Downsize ruthlessly before packing: moving costs scale with volume, so sell or donate anything you won't unpack
5. Set up the boring infrastructure fast: bank, address change, healthcare, ID, and any local registration

Tips

• Give yourself a deadline to leave the house for the first month: isolation is the real risk, not logistics
• Keep one box of comfort items (kitchen basics, bedding) accessible so night one isn't miserable
• Negotiate a relocation stipend if a job triggered the move; many employers offer it but won't volunteer it
