The Gossip Gag

Be in a conversation where people start gossiping, and actively choose not to contribute a single word to it.

How to complete The Gossip Gag

Gossip pulls you in with small social rewards, so staying fully silent in it is harder than it sounds. This is practice in being present in a conversation without feeding it, which protects both your reputation and the absent person's.

  1. Spot the shift the moment talk turns to someone not in the room
  2. Decide before you speak that you'll add zero fuel, no 'well, I heard...' or knowing nods
  3. Stay neutral with your face and body, not just your words
  4. If pressed, deflect to something factual or change the subject
  5. Let the topic die from lack of oxygen and move on naturally

Tips

  • Silence counts; you don't have to lecture anyone to win this
  • A simple 'I don't really know them well enough to say' ends most pulls cleanly
  • Watch the nonverbals, a laugh or eyebrow raise is still contributing

What counts as done

A conversation went to gossip and you added nothing to it, verbal or nonverbal, start to finish.
