Identity Shift

Create a 'Not-To-Do List' of habits that no longer serve your character build.

How to complete Identity Shift

This flips habit-breaking on its head: instead of chasing new habits, you name the recurring behaviors that quietly undermine the person you're trying to become. Writing them down turns vague guilt into a short, decision-ready list you can actually act on.

  1. Picture the version of you 12 months out, then list the behaviors that version simply wouldn't do
  2. Write each as a clear 'I no longer...' line (e.g. 'I no longer check email before getting out of bed')
  3. Keep it to 5-7 items so the list stays sharp instead of becoming a wish-dump
  4. Note next to each one the trigger or time of day it usually happens
  5. Put the list somewhere you see daily and revisit it weekly to prune or add

Tips

  • Frame each item around an identity, not a rule ('not a person who gossips' beats 'stop gossiping')
  • Skip habits you've already dropped; this is for live ones still costing you
  • Be honest about small ones too, like doomscrolling at lunch, not just dramatic vices

What counts as done

You have a written, named list of specific habits you're consciously retiring, and you can point to where it lives.
