The Facilitator
25 pointscareer & work
Prepare the agenda and successfully lead a productive team or project meeting.
How to complete The Facilitator
A well-run meeting ends with decisions and owners; a bad one burns an hour and books another meeting. Facilitating means you set the purpose ahead of time and steer the room so the time produces real outcomes.
- Send an agenda with desired outcomes and any pre-reads at least a day ahead.
- Open by stating the goal and the hard stop, then work the agenda in order.
- Park tangents in a visible parking lot and steer back to the topic.
- Draw in the quiet voices and rein in the dominant ones.
- Close by reading back decisions, owners, and deadlines.
Tips
- Invite only people who decide or do; observers dilute focus.
- Timebox each item and say out loud when you're moving on.
- Send notes with action items within the hour, while it's fresh.
What counts as done
The meeting ends on time with a written list of decisions and assigned next steps everyone agreed to.
